Montana Ghost Town License Plate Grant Application

Welcome to the Montana Ghost Town License Plate Grant application page! If you're working on a project focused on preserving Montana's rich historical legacy, we encourage you to apply for grant funding.

Thank you for your interest in the Montana Ghost Town License Plate Grant. A portion of the funds generated from the sale of Ghost Town license plates (25%) is set aside to support historic preservation projects throughout the state of Montana. The grant is available to groups focused on the preservation and/or stabilization of significant publicly-accessible historical buildings, or the creation or enhancement of historic interpretive or educational displays located within the state.

Please carefully review the qualifications below to ensure that your project is eligible for funding before submitting your application.

Eligible projects include:

  • Preservation and/or Stabilization of Historical Buildings:
    The project must involve the preservation or stabilization of a significant, publicly accessible historical building within Montana.
  • Creation or Enhancement of Historic Displays:
    The project must involve the creation or enhancement of historic interpretive or educational displays that will be located within Montana.

Project Information

Narrative should include a proposed timeline with anticipated project completion date and budget. Please make this short and concise.

For preservation grants, photographs of the existing condition of the project are encouraged.Select multiple photos by shift clicking them, or cmd/option and clicking them.

For educational grants, detailed project designs are required. These can be computer generated or hand drawn, but with enough detail to clearly see what you are proposing for funding.

If available, please attach copies of any historic building assessments, historic structures reports, or plans and specifications that may assist with the review of this project.

Attach 501 c 3 designation certification, if applicable.

Notes

  • Administrative money will not be funded.
  • 501 C 3 designated grant applicants will be given preference.
  • Grants will be reviewed by the grant application committee and submitted to the GPA Board for final approval.
  • Grants are awarded as license plate funding accrues. Funds are distributed to awarded applicants in a timely manner.
  • You will be asked to submit a written report on the outcome, within 6 months, of completion of the project. Pictures are encouraged.
